Jason Lui: Executive Director
Jason is the Executive Director of the Children’s Music Fund and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and a Concentration in International Relations. Since learning the piano when he was 4, music has played an important role in Jason’s life. CMF provides a unique opportunity for him to give back to the community while also channeling his musical passions. With aspirations of attending medical school, Jason sees music therapy as a viable mode of alternative medicine and a therapeutic way to provide relief. Currently, Jason works as an EMT at UCLA’s 911 Emergency Medical Services program. He also serves as an Editor of The Generation, UCLA’s public affairs journal. In the future, he hopes to use his Medical Degree to push for public policy reform, advocating on behalf of other medical professionals and their patients. In his free time, Jason enjoys listening to music, going to the gym with his brother, watching tennis, and spending time with his pug, Cannon.

With digital marketing experience in a startup setting, his professional interests involve understanding music’s role in relation to its cultural and behavioral context. Having played the clarinet in his youth, Josh knows firsthand how musical performance contributes to cognitive development. Through research projects, he has studied the effects of music education on high school students, as well as analyzed the music memoirs of notable rock artists to uncover how musicians discuss their bodies in relation to musical performance. He most recently launched a podcast called Stage Presence and is working on developing his longform writing projects. Typically, you can catch Josh at a concert, coffee-shop or museum always on the search for innovative art and experiences.
