Before Charity Sessions had a name, a venue, or a fundraising goal, it was just a group of friends taking turns behind a DJ controller. Two friends would get together around holidays, parties and open weekends to DJ. There was no formal event series, no business plan, no larger concept. It was mostly an excuse to hang out, trade music, enjoy mixing songs for friends, and making new ones along the way.
Then one video changed the scale of the idea. After watching Fred’s Arun’s Rooftop set on YouTube, the friends became enamored with the idea of doing something similar, taking their music mixing hangouts to more picturesque locations. At first, the idea was a rooftop session built around music and community. Then it moved one step further: what if the event could also raise money?
The format was there. The next question was who it should support.
Children’s Music Fund was not a new name to the organizers. One of them had worked with the nonprofit before through 808-Boom, a custom keycap set inspired by the Roland TR-808 drum machine. The project came out of a small online niche, the mechanical keyboard community, but it showed how a smaller community could come together to do something larger than itself. It also reflected a larger insight behind this burgeoning idea; design, music and shared purpose can help unite people.
When the rooftop idea started to become a fundraiser, supporting Children’s Music Fund felt like a natural continuation of that earlier project, and the next step in the event.
That idea has since turned into Charity Sessions, a new recurring charity event series. Its first event is scheduled for August 29, 2026, at Angad Arts Hotel in St. Louis, which has donated its rooftop bar and lounge space for the occasion.
The inaugural event will run from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. and feature a seven-DJ lineup covering a wide range of genres, including house, rap and hip-hop, funk, EDM, and more. There will be a silent auction, VIP tables, sponsor opportunities, and a livestream on Twitch.
The fundraising goal is $20,000.
All proceeds will benefit Children’s Music Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides Music Therapy to children facing serious medical conditions. The organization serves infants, children, teenagers, and young people affected by a wide range of life-altering medical conditions including cancer, autism, blood disorders, immune deficiencies, heart, lung and kidney disease, and rare diseases.
Music Therapy is a clinical practice, but its value can be easy to understand on a human level. For children going through medical treatment, music can help with pain, fear, anxiety, emotional expression, and stress. It can give young patients a way to participate, communicate or simply experience connection. That connection between music and care became the foundation for Charity Sessions.
“When they [a child] are diagnosed with a serious medical condition, they need help and their families need support. Normal routines no longer exist, isolation, fear and waiting for test results fill the days. Sounds in a hospital are typically hushed voices, beeping of monitors, the squeaking wheels of a hospital bed going down the hallway, or worse, silence.
How do you counter that environment? How do you help a child talk about their feelings and understand what is happening? Children’s Music Fund offers assistance by focusing on the mental well-being of the child through Music Therapy, restoring joy and laughter, singing and playing of instruments, teaching coping mechanisms, alleviating pain-levels, and so much more. Every day, we are dedicated to helping that sick child on a journey to a better quality of life.
Since 2002, Children’s Music Fund has provided over 15,000 fully-funded Music Therapy sessions.”
Children’s Music Fund’s Music Makes Us Better campaign asks people to finish a simple sentence:
Music makes me feel _____.
For Charity Sessions, one answer kept coming up: connected.
It started with two friends sharing music and grew into a rooftop fundraiser with DJs, donors, sponsors, and a community gathering around a cause. It also connects back to the mission of Children’s Music Fund, which uses Music Therapy to help children facing serious medical conditions experience comfort, expression and moments of relief.
The event itself is being designed as both a fundraiser and a full-day community gathering. In addition to the DJ lineup, organizers are planning a silent auction. The auction will include music-related prizes such as HiFi headphones and IEMs, Digital Audio Workstation licenses, six-months of Premium music streaming services (Apple Music, Spotify Premium, Tidal), and other donated items. Additionally, along with the prizes above, a “Win-a-Mix” prize will give one attendee the chance to mix a few songs with the DJs, live during the show.
The organizers are also working on a Twitch livestream intended to extend the event beyond the rooftop. Viewers will be able to tune in during the entire show, watch all the DJ sets and access links to directly support the event.
Sponsorships are also part of the plan. Charity Sessions includes Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum sponsor tiers, with benefits ranging from event signage and staff shirt placement to social media features, livestream logo placement, donor spotlight posts, and VIP table opportunities.
The top donor will receive Platinum recognition, including a reserved VIP table, permanent branding placement on the livestream, additional event signage, and other on-site recognition.
The first Charity Sessions event will take place August 29, 2026, at Angad Arts Hotel.
