Children’s Music Fund Aids Adventist Health White Memorial Pediatric Patients With Music Therapy Cart Thanks to Water Buffalo Club

Music Therapy Demonstration Shows How Children With Chronic and Life-Altering Illness Are Taught To Manage Pain, Fear and Anxiety

LOS ANGELES – Nov. 29, 2018 Children’s Music Fund, a leading children’s music therapy nonprofit, announces the delivery of a custom music therapy cart to Adventist Health White Memorial Medical Center to enhance individualized treatment plans using therapeutic and evidence-based musical intervention for its pediatric patients. This state-of-the-art music cart, designed and curated by Children’s Music Fund and funded by The Water Buffalo Club, is equipped with child-oriented instruments and recording equipment for use in music therapy sessions. A demonstration by a board-certified music therapist utilizing the new music therapy cart takes place at White Memorial on Nov. 29 at 7 a.m.

“This wonderful gift from the Children’s Music Fund greatly enhances the music therapy program at our hospital,” said Mary Anne Chern, President of the Charitable Foundation at Adventist Health White Memorial Medical Center. “In 2011, Children’s Music Fund established the first pediatric music therapy program at the hospital by donating a library of instruments, and over the years, has provided countless hours of music therapy to our pediatric patients. This music therapy cart continues advancing our progressive approach to treatment.”

The music therapy cart consists of two components: 1) instruments needed by music therapists from Children’s Music Fund to create individualized treatment plans and music therapy sessions during a child’s hospital stay and 2) recording equipment to capture a child’s music session so musical involvement in the therapeutic context after leaving the hospital can be continued. This powerful combination of live sessions and on-demand access to session recordings aids in addressing the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of children with chronic or life-altering conditions.

“For the first time, Children’s Music Fund can provide children an opportunity to record music therapy sessions that they can continue to benefit from after their hospital stay,” said Raffi Tachdjian, MD, MPH, Children’s Music Fund Founder and President.  “Through the generous support of the Water Buffalo Club, we are not only able to provide our music therapists with new instruments and equipment, but also to provide the children we serve with a tangible way to continue their healing outside of the hospital.  This is a very exciting partnership!”

This is the first of five customized music therapy carts that will be delivered to hospitals in the Greater Los Angeles area to support in-hospital music therapy sessions for children with chronic or life-altering conditions.
